Home Sweet Home?

Updated: Mar 16, 2021

Once upon a time in a far-away village … well … we know already how that story will end – happily ever after.

But life just isn’t like that is it?! I won’t even mention how many things can go wrong, but we all will get bumps and bruises along the way. It’s how we recover and get back up again once we fall that will make the difference.

The winds of change will blow through like a tornado, whipping down the family pictures smashing them onto the floor. Life is an adventure – we enjoyed childhood, marriage, new babies. Perhaps life also included divorce, disease, family discord, a few moves and grief.

Then came the global pandemic, with home isolation, home-schooling, working from home, and we need to find space to accommodate the changes. It seems we suddenly need to help our aging parents downsize their home, and then we’re eventually left with our own empty nests. Our homes, and our lives have changed! And it seems like yesterday was a lifetime ago.

Have you ever lived somewhere and wondered why it just didn’t feel like home? What else was happening in your life? When our lives are out-of-order, or there are new circumstances or stresses, our houses can become out-of-order as well. Our houses are an extension of our hearts. Is your house built of twigs, straw or bricks? Or is it a house built on a rock to secure it from the storms of life?

We all know that “home is where the heart is”. Perhaps that’s why we want to be with family during holiday celebrations and also during tragedy. Together, our hearts are at home.

So, how can we strengthen our hearts and our homes from within to prepare for the next storm? It’s a time of transition.

Let’s work on this together … no matter what’s happening ...

everyone deserves a “home sweet home”!
